In February 2026, Trekkers Outdoor Recreation Club Laager 15 proudly shared the story of their latest community initiative in their newsletter. What started as fines collected throughout 2025 became a meaningful act of kindness: a generous handover of groceries, household essentials, and personal care items to St. Michael’s Child and Youth Care Centre (CYCC) in the Cape Metropole.

St. Michael’s is a safe haven for up to 30 young women aged 13 to 18 who are protected under the Child Care Act. The centre provides a nurturing environment where these girls can overcome adversity, rebuild their confidence, and “reclaim the true essence of being a woman” through strength, responsibility, and personal growth.

Led with dedication by Benny and Desiree, who coordinated all the purchasing, and supported by the wider L15 team who generously donated extra items, the handover was a true team effort. The newsletter celebrates this success under the banner “Our Everyday Heroes” and “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work,” highlighting how collective generosity and coordination can create real impact.

The accompanying photos capture the joyful moment: L15 members proudly standing with the mountain of donated goods and the warm welcome they received at St. Michael’s. This initiative perfectly embodies the spirit of L15 — turning everyday contributions into brighter futures for vulnerable young women in our community.
