Laager 15 – January 2022 Outspan

“Some like it Hot” according to the movie title. It was 40ish and if any of the campers were previously a fan of this 1959 Marilyn Monroe Movie, I imagine after this weekend that might have changed.

Laager 15’s first outspan of the year took place over the weekend of 14-16 Jan and the venue was Fynbos Guest Farm just outside of Wolseley. A few families went through a day early which allowed them to experience the full force of the heat that was experienced on the Friday. During the afternoon the other families arrived, and all ten stands were booked and taken up.

Fynbos is a small park as it is an animal sanctuary and working farm. There is a plunge pool and many animals to see as well as a restaurant and “padstal” on the property. Only a few kilometers to Ceres, Wolseley and Tulbagh means there is quite a bit to see and do in the nearby vicinity.

The plunge pool is literally that, a plunge pool. Due to the heat, it was used extensively with some campers essentially setting up camp there. Although a roster is needed, tongue in cheek, to provide everyone equal opportunity in the pool.

To add to the heat, a Mexican themed evening was hosted, with the campers providing their own meat of choice after collecting their spices and cooking the meat. In the evening all the accompaniments for tacos and tortillas were provided. This was again around the Pool in the Lapa area which is a very suitable venue for any gathering. After the meal, a Quagga piñata was hung and much fun was had watching the “kids”, both young and old, trying their hand at freeing the sweets.

The outspan was rounded off with the Indaba on Sunday morning and a few families received visitor tags and two visiting families from Laager 21 were also welcomed. We also welcomed the Forbes Family to their first Indaba as members of Laager 15.

All in all, another memorable camp for the record books and we look forward to our February camp in Onrus. 22 sites are booked for this so it should be a very busy one.
