The world over, there is always development! In this instance it was motivated by economics. We have been and still do when requested, been purchasing aluminium canopies from some of the top suppliers.
We found over the years that the margins for these products kept shrinking, this was mostly due to the high trade prices we were required to pay and the need to be ever competitive. We have in our workshops some very experienced and talented artisans. We rationalised that with the skills available and the vast experience we have in vehicle conversions, it made sense to explore the option of manufacturing our own aluminium canopy range.
We have for a number of years been manufacturing our own long range fuel tanks. we supply to exclusive fitment centres and individuals alike. We have clients all over the country as well as many of our northern neighbour countries, as an example we supply the Botswana Defence Force. The skill sets whist not identical, are to a large degree those used in this type of fabrication.
With some serious investment in CNC bending break and CNC punching machines, together with some upmarket welding equipment, we found that we could manufacture in-house and to order canopies which were as good if not better than anything in the marketplace.
The really nice thing about manufacturing from scratch is that you can accommodate every customers individual needs. One of the significant elements of the canopy industry is the high percentage of specialist users. Professionals especially in the service industry are required to equip themselves for many contingencies. The availability of the right equipment available on the job, can justify the cost of comprehensive outfitting for their vehicles. By the same token, leisure users have equally individual needs and desires for their activities.
Given the provision of equipment and skills Gerbers can offer almost unlimited variations of storage and equipment specifications. We would also take this opportunity to advise that we have signed an import agreement for the supply of an advanced aluminium extrusion which will add much to the quality of both finish and structural strength. This unique extrusion will eliminate all of the hard corners normally associated with canopies manufactured in aluminium. The product will look superior, but of even more real value is the increased rigidity of the finished product.
